Is Apple Music On PS4? The Definitive Answer
No, unfortunately, Apple Music is not natively available on the PlayStation 4 (PS4). While other music streaming services are, Sony and Apple have not partnered to bring Apple Music directly to the console.
Understanding the Landscape: Music Streaming on PS4
The PlayStation 4 has evolved into more than just a gaming console; it’s a multimedia hub. While primarily used for gaming, its functionality extends to streaming video content and listening to music. This versatility makes music streaming integration a desirable feature for many users. Understanding the available options helps contextualize the absence of Apple Music.
Approved Music Streaming Services for PS4
The PS4 supports a limited number of music streaming apps directly through the PlayStation Store. Currently, these services offer viable alternatives for gamers looking to soundtrack their gameplay or simply enjoy music while using the console:
- Spotify: The most popular choice, offering seamless integration with the PS4 system. You can even control music playback during gameplay.
- Deezer: Another prominent music streaming service available on the PS4.
- YouTube Music: While not directly a “music” app, YouTube Music can be accessed through the PS4’s web browser.
Why Isn’t Apple Music On PS4?
The absence of Apple Music on PS4 likely boils down to business deals and strategic partnerships. Sony and Spotify have a long-standing relationship, resulting in deep integration of Spotify within the PlayStation ecosystem. While the precise details of these agreements are confidential, it’s safe to assume they play a significant role in shaping the availability of streaming services.
Competition between Apple and Sony could also be a factor. Apple prefers users to remain within its ecosystem, and making Apple Music easily accessible on a competitor’s device might not align with their overall strategy.
Workarounds for Listening to Apple Music on PS4
While there’s no dedicated app, some workarounds allow you to listen to Apple Music on your PS4, albeit with limitations:
- Web Browser: The PS4’s web browser allows you to access the Apple Music web player. However, functionality might be limited compared to a native app, and background playback may not be consistent.
- Bluetooth Speaker: Connect a Bluetooth speaker to a device playing Apple Music (like your phone or tablet) and use the speaker near your PS4. This doesn’t directly integrate Apple Music into the PS4 system but allows you to listen to it while gaming.
- HDMI Adapter (Advanced): Some users have explored using HDMI adapters to mirror their phone’s screen to their TV, thus playing Apple Music on the TV through the adapter. This is a more complex solution, and the performance may vary.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Apple Music coming to PS5?
The question of whether Apple Music will come to the PlayStation 5 (PS5) remains unanswered. Currently, there is no native Apple Music app available on the PS5. While speculation exists regarding future partnerships, Sony has not officially announced any plans to integrate Apple Music.
Can I listen to Apple Music through the PS4’s web browser?
Yes, you can access the Apple Music web player through the PS4’s web browser. However, be aware that the functionality may be limited compared to a dedicated app, and background playback might not be reliable.
Does Apple Music Family Sharing work on PS4 if I use the web browser workaround?
While you can access Apple Music through the browser, the PS4 does not recognize or integrate with Apple’s Family Sharing feature. The Apple Music account you log into via the browser will be recognized, but family sharing settings will not apply within the browser environment on the PS4.
Is there a way to control Apple Music playback with my PS4 controller?
No, since Apple Music is not natively integrated, you cannot directly control playback using your PS4 controller. You would need to use a separate device (like your phone or tablet) to manage the music.
Will connecting my iPhone to the PS4 via USB allow me to play Apple Music?
Connecting your iPhone to the PS4 via USB primarily facilitates charging. It does not enable direct music playback from your iPhone through the PS4 system unless the PS4 had a built-in music import function (which it does not for Apple Music.)
Why can’t Sony and Apple just make a deal to put Apple Music on PS4?
The intricacies of business partnerships are complex. Factors like existing agreements (e.g., with Spotify), competition between the companies, and differing strategic priorities can all hinder a deal.
Are there any rumors about Apple Music being added to PS4 in the future?
While rumors surface occasionally, there have been no concrete announcements or credible leaks suggesting Apple Music will be added to the PS4. It is always advisable to rely on official statements from Sony or Apple regarding such matters.
Is Spotify better than Apple Music for PS4 users?
For PS4 users seeking native integration, Spotify is generally considered the better option due to its seamless integration and official app availability. Apple Music requires workarounds and offers a less polished experience on the PS4.
Will using a Bluetooth adapter improve the Apple Music experience on PS4?
Using a Bluetooth adapter doesn’t directly improve the Apple Music integration with the PS4. However, it can facilitate connecting your phone or tablet (playing Apple Music) to a Bluetooth speaker, allowing you to listen to the music while gaming.
Are there any third-party apps that can play Apple Music on PS4?
There are no legitimate third-party apps available on the PlayStation Store that can directly play Apple Music. Exercise caution when encountering claims of such apps, as they might be malicious.
If I subscribe to Apple One, can I access Apple Music on my PS4?
Subscribing to Apple One does not grant you native access to Apple Music on the PS4. Apple One is a bundle of Apple services, but it doesn’t change the fact that there’s no official Apple Music app for the console.
What is the best alternative to Apple Music for PS4 users?
The best alternative is Spotify, due to its dedicated app, seamless integration, and extensive music library. Deezer is another viable option.
