AeA's Special Midyear 2002 Tech Employment Report provides a snapshot of the most recent employment trends in the technology industry. The rapidly changing employment situation experienced by the technology industry during the last year and a half has prompted us to examine high-tech employment on a monthly basis. This report provides monthly high-technology industry employment data from January 2001 to June 2002.

High-tech employment statistics from January 2001 to June 2002
Detailed technology employment statistics for technology industry-specific sectors, including high-tech manufacturing, communications services, and software and computer-related services
An emphasis on the most recent high-tech employment data for the first 6 months of 2002

Key Findings . . .

High-tech employment dropped by 113,000 jobs during the first six months of 2002.
High-tech manufacturing employment declined every month between January 2001 and June 2002.
Communications services employment fell 6.4 percent between January 2001 and June 2002.
Software and computer-related services dropped by less than one percent between January 2001 and June 2002.
