Key Findings . . .
High-tech employment dropped
by 560,000 jobs during the past two years.
High-tech employment fell by
236,000 between January 2002 and December 2002.
High-tech manufacturing
employment declined by 415,00 between January 2001 and December 2002.
Food products and
transporation equipment manufacturing now employ more workers than the high-tech
manufacturing industry, which had been the largest manufacturing sector in the United
States.
Communications services
employment fell 135,000 between January 2001 and December 2002.
On the positive side,
software services increased by 5,300 jobs between January 2001 and December 2002.
