  • Students are taking more math and science courses, achieving higher scores in both subjects.
  • High-tech companies cluster around strong technical colleges and universities.
  • Technology industry's extraordinary employment growth exceeds the supply of technically skilled workers.
  • Technology degrees awarded have declined 5% since 1990.
  • Foreign nationals receive many of the high-tech degrees awarded by U.S. universities.

CyberEducation compiles in a single document data on education and assesses the implications for the high-tech industry.  The report reviews math and science test scores at the 4th, 8th, and 12th grade level, and shows that they have improved since 1990.  Each state is ranked by these scores and national scores are compared against other countries.  CyberEducation highlights computer and Internet access in public schools by state and how it has improved over time.  At the college and university level, CyberEducation tallies the number of students awarded associate, bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in six core high-tech fields (engineering, engineering technology, computer science, business information systems, mathematics, and physics).  These data are presented nationally and by state and show the decline in all but one of these six fields.  This is the first time such data have been compiled in one source.
