Highlights of What's Inside...
  • U.S. high-tech goods exports increased by 10 percent from $199 billion in 2005 to $220 billion in 2006, the 4th consecutive year of growth.
  • All eight high-tech sectors saw growth in 2006.
  • Leading growth sectors were industrial electronics (up 16 percent) and communications equipment (up 13 percent).
  • High tech was the nation’s largest export sector in 2006, comprising 21 percent of total U.S. goods exports.
  • U.S. high-tech imports reached $322 billion in 2006, up by 9 percent from $295 billion in 2005.
  • The largest markets for U.S. high-tech exports in 2006 were the European Union ($46.1B), Canada ($30.1B), Mexico ($29.6B), China ($14.1B), and Japan ($13.9B).
  • 38 cyberstates saw tech export growth in 2006.
  • The fastest growing cyberstates on a percentage basis from 2005 to 2006 were Mississippi, Virginia, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Oregon.
