New Patient Education Initiative Offers Online Health Videos and 3D Virtual Spacepods

BOSTON, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- MD Kiosk(TM) (http://www.mdkiosk.com) offers over 125 online subscription health and procedural videos for patients and doctors. Video topics include common diseases such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, stroke, cholesterol, back pain, allergies, depression, eczema, heart disease and asthma. The company hopes to coax health care providers to utilize a more palatable and entertaining form of patient education, i.e., medical videos, in lieu of traditional brochures and pamphlets in the clinical setting. Medical content is written and reviewed by board-certified physicians from a variety of different specialties nationwide.

The site also offers over 40 common medical and surgical procedures, like angioplasty, colonoscopy, skin resurfacing, tonsillectomy, and Botox(R) injections, to aid physicians and patients in the consent process that must legally occur before procedures are performed. "A medical video not only provides patients with needed information before undergoing a procedure, such as when they will be allowed to eat or shower after surgery, but also provides doctors with another layer of legal protection," states Dr. Lee, founder of MD Kiosk(TM).

There are also special interest on veterans health and videos to help acclimate children to a hospital environment.

3D Virtual Spacepods, Video Uploads, and a Touchscreen Kiosk

MD Kiosk(TM) (http://www.mdkiosk.com) has a number of products that aim to improve patient education. Clients can custom order a Touchscreen Kiosk that will be able to air videos in hospitals, clinics, or pharmacies. The company will also offer video licensing of their content, as well as custom video production.

A futuristic facet of the company utilizes Second Life(R) software as a platform for 3D virtual health classes in floating "spacepods." These spacepods contain a streaming medical video and allow for interactive chat. The health island also offers a virtual beach, exercise facilities, music therapy, a dining hall, and other exciting features.

YouTube style video uploads for health care professionals allows doctors to upload a surgical clip, health videos, or advertise a medical practice online.

Karen E. Lee, M.D., M.P.H., founder of MD Kiosk(TM), holds two degrees from Harvard University and started her life as a concert violinist. After winning prizes in the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition in England and the Paganini International Competition in Italy, she eventually turned to medical filmmaking as an artistic medium through which patient care and education can be greatly enhanced.
