Chicago, IL (10/24/2005) –
The Midwest Council of the AeA (formerly known as the American Electronics Association) announced today that Marty Singer, Chairman & CEO, PCTEL, Inc., and current Chairman of AeA’s Midwest Council, has been selected to serve on the PCAOB’s Standing Advisory Group.
The PCAOB is a private-sector, non-profit corporation, created by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 to oversee the auditors of public companies in order to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, fair, and independent audit reports. The Standing Advisory Group (SAG) was created by the PCAOB to advise the establishment of auditing and related professional practice standards.
The SAG is composed of approximately 30 highly-qualified persons representing the auditing profession, public companies, investors and others. The names and biographies of the new and current members can be found on the Board’s Web site at
www.pcaobus.org under the “Standards” tab on the site’s menu bar at the top of the screen.
The PCAOB received more than 150 nominations and re-nominations for consideration. From this list, the Board selected individuals with expertise in a variety of fields, including accounting, auditing, corporate finance, corporate governance, and investing in public companies.
“We are thrilled to have Marty represent both AeA and the industry on this important committee,” said Ed Longanecker, Executive Director, AeA Midwest Council.
“Marty has been a true asset and advocate in our efforts to lesson the disproportionate burden of SOX 404 on small to mid-sized public companies,” added Longanecker.
In November of 2004, AeA mounted a grassroots effort to examine the impact of SOX 404 on high-tech companies. In February of 2005, AeA released its report entitled “Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404: The ‘Section’ of Unintended Consequences and its Impact on Small Business.” The report was formulated by AeA member company executives from its 18 councils throughout the United States. While the report is highly complementary of Sarbanes-Oxley and its effectiveness on corporate governance, the report is critical of Section 404, which requires extensive new internal controls for financial reporting. AeA states that section 404 is having a devastating impact on small- and medium-sized companies and many of the objectives of the legislation’s authors will not be realized. More information regarding AeA’s work on SOX 404, including a recent SOX 404 survey conducted by AeA and NASDAQ, can be found here:
