AeA Issues Reaction to Cal/EPA’s Green Chemistry Policy Options

Sacramento, CA (January 31, 2008) - Today, Roxanne Gould, AeA Senior Vice President, California Government and Public Affairs, issued a statement on behalf of AeA in response to the California Green Chemistry Initiative’s first Green Chemistry Report. The following quote should be attributed to Ms. Gould:

“On behalf of AeA and our 2,500 high tech member companies, I want to applaud Governor Schwarzenegger, Secretary Adams and Director Gorsen on their forward thinking approach towards developing California’s Green Chemistry Initiative. Since the announcement of the initiative last May, AeA and our members have been active participants in the Green Chemistry Initiative’s workshops, symposiums and blog. The high tech industry has proven itself an industry leader in innovating environmentally sensitive products. We are hopeful that through the California Green Chemistry Initiative Cal/EPA and Governor Schwarzenegger will be able to foster an environment throughout California that will enable California’s leading industry not only to continue to create better and safer products, but to continue to thrive.”

California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) Secretary Linda Adams initiated the California Green Chemistry Initiative in May 2007, asking Department of Toxic Substances Control Director Maureen Gorsen to lead this groundbreaking effort. Green Chemistry is the design and use of chemicals that are less hazardous. The Green Chemistry Initiative's multi-agency state team is exploring a different approach to environmental protection-transitioning away from managing toxic chemicals at the end of the lifecycle, to reducing or eliminating their use altogether.
