AeA Definition of Green/Clean Technology
Green/Clean Technology – the design, manufacture, and use of products and
materials that minimize, reduce, or eliminate negative environmental impacts
of those products and materials or improve the efficient use of natural
resources while maintaining or improving their performance and cost to
consumers.
The Issue:
The U.S. high technology industry is the world leader in driving innovative
technology solutions that are an essential engine of growth.
Currently the United States is challenged by
rapidly escalating energy costs and emerging environmental issues, which are
causing concern among our nation’s business and government leaders. The
high-tech industry is currently exploring new options for energy that the
U.S. has yet to widely adopt. Many of these alternative energy solutions
also offer significant environmental benefits. In the interest of our
national security and continued economic growth and strength, AeA is
presenting a National Green Technology platform that provides local and
international knowledge exchange opportunities, adoption strategies for
State and Local Government, and political policy recommendations that will
further U.S. leadership in global innovation.
Currently, the high-technology industry is
investigating and providing early and late stage alternative and renewable
energy technologies including: battery, solar, water, wind, and fuel cell
technology.
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders awards Envision Solar's CEO with the AeA High
Tech Award for Clean Tech
Efficiency
AeA supports improving the efficient use of natural resources, while
maintaining or improving performance and/or cost. Such topics include:
Encouraging Tele-working. AeA supports
State and Federal Measures to Increase public funding and support of
Tele-working.
Improving Broadband Deployment. AeA
supports increasing broadband access, speed, and penetration.
Broadband decreases the need for transportation and increases the use
of E-commerce, and it also can increase teleconferencing and distance
learning programs.
Energy efficient chips. The R&D Tax
Credits helps technology companies improve the efficiency of their
microprocessors, which lead to longer life mobile devices and improved
electricity use at data centers.
Energy
AeA supports the R&D Tax Credit to investigate and uncover early and late
stage energy efficiency and the exploration of alternative and renewable
energy technologies including: battery, solar, water, wind, and fuel cell
technology.
Environment
AeA supports industry and government initiatives and responses that increase
responsible environmental recycling and offer proactive environmental design
initiatives on behalf of the high-technology industry.

September 17, 2007: AeA Calls
for Urgent EU Action to Reduce CO2 Emissions through ICT
A landmark study
released by AeA Europe calls for urgent action, if ICT and advanced
technologies are to reach their full potential in helping meet the
EU’s 2020 climate change targets.
The report makes three specific policy recommendations, which
would assist in achieving the goals of the EU Action Plan for
Energy Efficiency. It calls on the EU to urgently:
Publish a strategy outlining the energy saving benefits of
advanced electronics and ICT, and how these can be used to
accelerate energy savings across all economic sectors and in
the home. This strategy could be part of the Energy Policy for
Europe, and linked to other existing initiatives
Encourage the public sector to adopt ICT and other
advanced technologies that enable energy efficiency, through
better procurement practices
Support and promote R&D efforts and incentivize programs
to develop technologies that enable energy efficiency
