AeA International Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC)

The IPAC is made up mainly of senior executives, government affairs representatives, or those within member companies with an interest in international trade and investment issues.

AeA regularly provides the IPAC pertinent information on international trade, investment, or political developments and policy issues to improve understanding of the broader context in which our member companies operate.

The IPAC regularly meets in AeA’s Washington, DC office to provide guidance to AeA staff on key international issues and to provide a forum for member companies to share insights on U.S. and foreign market international trade and investment policy developments.

Previous Meetings:

May 30, 2008

Grant Aldonas, who is serving as a trade advisor to the McCain Campaign, will talk with the AeA International Committee on Friday, May 30, 2008 about what we might expect from a McCain Administration on trade and international economic issues.  Grant has served in many key international trade roles including as Under Secretary for International Trade at the Department of Commerce (2001-2005) and Chief International Trade Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee.  This will be a good chance to raise concerns members have and to ask questions about future policy directions.

Members should arrive by 11:45am to get lunch and settled as Grant will begin speaking to the group at 12pm (ET).  Following his presentation, we will open it up for discussion.  After Grant departs, the Committee will discuss several key issues related to China, WTO, and other matters.

April 11, 2008

The next meeting of the AeA International Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC) will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 12:00 in the AeA Offices, in the David Packard conference room. Senator Obama's advisor on International Trade, Dan Tarullo, will speak  in order to provide us with a better understanding of how an Obama administration would approach international trade and economic issues. This will also be an opportunity for us to share our views with Mr. Tarullo who is currently a professor at Georgetown and served as Assistant to the President for International Economic Policy to the Clinton Administration, among other roles. Please arrive by 11:45  so that Mr. Tarullo can begin his presentation at noon.

February 1, 2008

The next meeting of the AeA International Committee will be on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 from 11:45 - 1:30pm (ET) in the AeA offices. We were able to schedule Chris Padilla, Under Secretary for International Trade at the US Department of Commerce, to join us for this meeting since he could not make our meeting last November. He will talk with us about the his trade priorities for the year and we will discuss with him member company international issue priorities. This will be a great opportunity to engage him in discussion on the challenges related to Doha, the FTAs, and China.

November 16, 2007

The next meeting of the AeA International Policy Advisory Committee will be held on Friday, November 16, 2007 in the AeA office from 12 - 1:30pm (ET). The new CEO and President of AeA, Chris Hansen, will talk with members about his background on international issues and respond to your questions or suggestions regarding the work of AeA on international issues of key concern to you. This will be his second day on the job at AeA and a great opportunity to meet with Chris.

The next meeting of the AeA International Policy Advisory Committee will be on Friday, September 28, 2007 in the AeA office from 12 - 1:30pm (ET). Tim Reif, Staff Director for the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee has agreed to meet with the group to talk about the House's trade agenda for the rest of this year and into 2008.We will also seek input from members on what AeA's international priorities should be for 2008 in advance of the AeA Board Meeting set for October  3, 2007.

USITO's China IT Weekly Briefing strives to make the Chinese IT market more accessible to U.S. companies by providing market development assistance and information on government policy, regulations, and trends in key IT markets.

The AeA India Work Group was established in response to strong member support for AeA to play a more active role on policy issues related to India and to provide a venue for members to exchange information and experiences related to doing business in India. The AeA India High Tech News Report reports bi-monthly the high-tech news from India.

"Europe in a Page" is a monthly publication prepared by AeA Europe Managing Director, James Lovegrove. It endeavors to condense - as far as it is possible - the previous month's high-tech news. It focuses mainly on AeA Europe policy priorities, namely: Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), and Standards & Certification (S&C).
