The focus of the AeA International Environment Committee is to educate and keep members current on international environmental regulations and issues, as well as to work with the United States and foreign governments as necessary to advocate voluntary approaches are adopted in place of mandatory standards relating to eco-design, energy use and certification.
The committee is made up of dozens of global environment professionals from U.S. high technology companies.

The Japanese government has notified the
World Trade Organization of its intention to add "RoHS" labeling/disclosure
requirements to the "Enforcement Order of the Law for Promotion of Effective
Utilization of Resources" (adopted in 2001). Such an amendment would require
the six "RoHS" chemical substances in seven types of electrical and
electronic equipment (computers) be subject to management, labeling and
information provision requirements.
