Why the Government Market?
  • Local, state, and Federal governments are anticipated to spend over $150 billion dollars in FY 2006 on technology products and services.
  • The Department of Defense will spend billions of dollars on essential military technology.
  • The Department of Veterans Affairs will spend hundreds of millions of dollars on essential medical technology to support its 150-hospital network.
  • The Department of Defense, Department of Commerce, Small Business Administration and Department of Homeland Security will award hundreds of millions of dollars for technology research and development projects.

Access Department Procurement Contacts or Small Business Procurement Contacts

The Federal government is seeking new technologies to address their challenging requirements, particularly from innovative small businesses and new market entrants. The new Homeland Security law requires agency procurement officials to conduct market research when purchasing technologies required to address homeland security and anti-terrorism needs.

There is considerable focus on E-Government and special technology initiatives to streamline government services and make IT procurements more effective and efficient.

All government agencies have goals to contract a certain percentage of their technology awards to small, women-owned or minority-owned businesses. Opportunities also exist for veteran-owned and HUB-zone-based firms.

The Federal government provides its contracting officials with a web-based tool, http://www.AcqNet.gov, which is a valuable resource for contracting information related to the Federal acquisition process. Among its many features are up-to-date Federal Acquisition Regulations, agency contact information, business opportunities, and market research.

Get up-to-speed on doing business with the government

"AeA’s services have always saved us money. Now I have the opportunity to generate revenue with the new AeA Member Directory."--Curt Nelson, CEO, Silicon Space, Inc.

"Government procurement officials have historically overlooked companies such as mine. Some of the most cutting-edge technologies are being developed in smaller firms, but we are frequently lost in the shadow of the big guys. By expanding the scope of its market research, the government is effectively leveling the playing field and allowing companies to stand on the merits of products rather than marketing budgets."--Michele Wong, President and CEO,  Synergex, Inc.
