Controls and American Competitiveness |
AeA, with three other associations, organized a program for Congressional staff to provide an overview of U.S. Export Controls and their impact on American competitiveness from an industry perspective. The event took place on April 29, 2005 in the Senate Dirksen office building and was attended by over 45 people including staffers, government officials, and industry representatives. Bill Archey, AeA President and CEO, kicked off the program that included several speakers from AeA member companies:
Bob Rarog (Sun), David Rose (Intel), Keith Melchers (Hewlett Packard), and Hans Luemers
(Sun). Topics covered included: an overview of the U.S. export control system, export licenses and internal control programs, enforcement, unilateral controls and sanctions, and legislative first principles. AeA received very positive feedback from staffers, Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security attendees and industry representatives. Presentation materials from the event will be utilized for additional outreach events including small group discussions with key congressional staff members.
