Background
The World Customs Organization (WCO), formerly the Customs Co-Operation Council (CCC), is an independent intergovernmental body that has as its mission to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs Administrations. Key activities of WCO are allocated to the: Permanent Technical Committee; Enforcement Committee; Harmonized Systems Committee, including the Harmonized System Review Subcommittee and the Scientific Sub – Committee; Technical Committee on Custom Valuation; Technical Committee on Rules of Origin.
While the WCO is involved in a wide-variety of customs related activities, of importance to AeA Customs Committee Members is the work undertaken with the respect to the WCO Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS). Work related to the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System is undertaken by the Harmonized System Committee [HSC] and the HS Review Subcommittee [RSC]), and valuation issues are undertaken by the Technical Committee on Valuation
(TCV).
Objective
The objective of this subcommittee is to establish a forum for information exchange on issues at the WCO. Specifically, those issue being undertaken by the HSC, RSC and TCV. Create a mechanism to (1) solicit inputs / comments and technical information related to classification issues under review; (2) seek insights on technical valuation issues. The subcommittee will also foster industry participation in and the ability to influence issues at the
WCO.
