Math/Science Partnership Working Group

Meeting Notes

February 25, 2002

Yesterday, the working group had a planning meeting to discuss a variety of issues, including the committee principles, data, strategy, and definitions of a successful outcome. From the meeting, the following action items were agreed upon:

  1. A set of powerpoint slides (no more than 10) will be updated to serve as a message document for the working group.
  2. A second draft of the working group principles will be circulated next week to reflect the suggestions and changes recommended by those in attendance.
  3. A one page position paper (in Q-n-A format) to help answer the key questions raised by funding the No Child Left Behind math/science partnerships.
  4. Schedule a meeting with the National Science Foundation to discuss their math/science partnership.
  5. Schedule (within the next two weeks) meetings with House/Senate Majority/Minority Appropriations committee staff to discuss the "No Child Left Behind" math/science partnerships. Paula Collins of Texas Instruments will be taking the lead on these meetings.

I welcome any assistance you may wish to provide on these action items.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m. at AeA. These meetings will be scheduled every other week. If you cannot attend the meeting in person (primarily for non-DC based individuals) but would like to participate, please let me know so I can arrange a dial-in number.

A second draft of both the working group principles and the one page Q-n-A will be circulated prior to the March 11 meeting.

Feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions.
