National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

The "No Child Left Behind" Act requires that all 4th and 8th graders must be proficient in mathematics in 12 years. Currently, only 25% of 4th graders and 27% of 8th graders nationwide are proficient in mathematics.

2000 Science Scores
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

The "No Child Left Behind" Act requires the states to begin testing science proficiency in the 2006-2007 school year. Currently, only 30% of 4th graders and 32% of 8th graders are proficient in science.
