About the Program

If your company is currently exporting, planning to sell to foreign markets or importing components or technology, you can't afford to miss this AeA seminar. The program is designed to provide attendees with up-to-date information on company best practices and the changing world of doing business in international markets.

This seminar will equip attendees with information about the latest changes in U.S. laws and regulations governing imports and exports of technology and high-tech products. We will also provide an update on current discussions in Washington on trade issues. Topics covered will include:

  • Best practices in customs and export compliance Internal control programs

  • An update from the Office of Export Enforcement, U.S. Department of Commerce and from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection

  • Hear about the working groups of the AeA Customs and Export Controls committees
  • Learn how a trade association can provide advocacy efforts to support trade compliance
  • Review of compliance basics and Customs' expectations, with an emphasis on classification.
  • Recent classification rulings and a discussion of the rulings process.
  • Examples and discussion of 2007 HTSUS changes in Chapter 85 and other relevant provisions.
  • Customs Compliance Best Practices including Post Entry review and Broker Management
  • Tips on how to obtain upper management support and create cross functional teams for enhanced compliance
  • Using Internal Controls to control your risk.
  • Regulatory Audit wants to talk to me? Now what?
  • Discussion of the companies, countries and persons you are prohibited from exporting to under US law and the export restrictions applicable to a wide range of goods and technologies.
  • Learn about export control regulations applicable to the transfer of technology, including the release of technology to foreign national employees.
  • Understand export controls applicable to software containing encryption

In today's world of trade regulation, it's what you DON'T know that can hurt you. Did you know that:

  • Failure to comply with Customs and Export Regulations can result in fines and loss of your export privileges?
  • You may have to apply for an export license ('deemed export' rule) if you employ a foreign national?

This seminar is designed for executives and managers from small to medium-size high-tech companies involved in international trade.  Individuals from sale/marketing, business development, export administration, customs compliance, export compliance, legal, logistics and procurement can benefit from the program.

Here's what attendees from AeA's Trade Compliance Seminars had to say:

  • Great as usual!
  • Good variety of speakers and information, they were able to link the topics.
  • Good overview of what's been happening -- I learned of resources available to me to teach and help my employees.
