Event Summary

On March 19, 2004, AeA hosted an international breakfast on Ireland: A Stepping Stone to Europe, sponsored by AeA Associate Member, IDA Ireland.  Following a traditional Irish breakfast, attendees learned the latest trends in Irish legislation that will benefit high-tech companies located or considering to relocate to Ireland.  

The breakfast was opened by Minister of State, Mary Hanafin, TD, who reviewed the economic climate in Ireland and the opportunities available to foreign investors. Sponsor of the international breakfast Eamonn Ryan, Executive Vice President of IDA Ireland welcomed the attendees and addressed how IDA Ireland can assist American high-tech companies establish operations in Ireland.  

David A. Donatelli, Executive Vice President, EMC and Stephen C. Kiely, Executive Chairman, Stratus Technologies, both addressed why Ireland was chosen to establish a direct presence to maximize competitiveness in global markets. They also addressed their experiences while establishing and growing direct foreign operations. Patricia Flynn, Trustee Professor of Economics and Management, Bentley College, assessed key factors for a successful innovation economy and the current status of research & development, education, workforce skills, venture capital and high-tech employment in Ireland. Feargal O’Rourke, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dublin, Ireland concluded the program by addressing the newest developments in corporate tax rates and R&D tax credits available in Ireland and how foreign companies can take advantage of these. 

This event, a part of AeA New England's International Series, provided local tech company executives a chance to meet and learn from other high-tech companies about their experiences in investing or setting up offices in Ireland. Special thanks to IDA Ireland for sponsoring hosting this event.
