Event Summary

February 26, 2004, AeA hosted an HR Breakfast workshop on Firing Up and Retaining Your People Now: Being in Front of the Market Change at AeA Member Company SeaChange International, Inc., in Maynard, MA.

Carol Salloway, Principal of The HR Consulting Group, opened the workshop by reviewing the key retention statistics. The program stipulated the premise that employees are more likely to stay with an organization if the employee fit with the job tasks, organizational culture and his/her manager. The manager can not create motivation, but can create an environment where the employees are allowed and encouraged to be all they can be. By understanding the temperament of employees, a manager can speak their language to motivate them from within.

Through various exercises this workshop revealed the temperaments of the attendees, which are defined as Idealist, Rational, Guardian and Artisan. The workshop concluded with a discussion on how to coach employees of the each of the four temperaments by using specific language directed to that temperament.

This AeA roundtable provided an excellent opportunity for member company senior executives to meet and learn how understanding the four temperaments can be used as a tool when addressing your employees in an informal, intimate setting. Special thanks to SeaChange International, Inc. for hosting this event.
