Mr. John Plyler
Manager of Corporate Responsibility in the Supply Chain
Motorola, Inc.

John Plyler is a 1990 Graduate of the University of Akron with BS Degrees in Chemical Engineering and Applied Mathematics and a 2002 Graduate of the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management with a Masters in Business Administration. John worked as a process engineer for Unocal Chemicals for four years before joining Motorola in 1994. He has held various Environmental Engineering and Environmental, Health and Safety Management positions within Motorola. He is currently the Manager of Corporate Responsibility in the Supply Chain.

John has been very involved in Supply Chain Corporate Responsibility issues for over 6 years, This involvement initially covered the material content of products used in Motorola products and has expanded to include environmental, health and safety and labor conditions in place at Motorola supplier facilities.

In his current and prior roles at Motorola, he has led the revision of internal specifications and the development of processes to support collection of material content data. He brings first hand knowledge of supplier perspectives and challenges through his support of the supply chain as a subject matter expert. John is currently serving as the Chair of the Electronic Industry Alliance’s (EIA) project to revise its material declaration standard, the Joint Industry Guide (JIG101). He additionally is a U.S. Technical Expert and has assumed various leadership positions within Technical Committee (TC) 111, Working Group 1 of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) which is tasked with creating an IEC standard on materials declaration.

In early 2006, John joined other Motorola team members who were already participating in the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), a global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) consortium. This group is developing and implementing the ICT industry tools to assist in the assessment of the ICT supply chain's practices regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). John has been working to incorporate these tools and practices in Motorola’s own supply chain management system to maximize effectiveness.
