Steve Andrews has worked in a number of different posts in the Department
for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform (BERR) covering both policy
and project responsibilities.
In April 2004, Steve became the head of (what is now known as) the
Sustainable Development & Regulation Directorate’s Eco-design &
Product Regulation Unit and has responsibility for BERR’s policy on the
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, the eco-design for
Energy-using Products (EuP) framework Directive and the Department’s
interest in the Packaging & Packaging Waste Directive and the
enforcement of its Single Market aspects within the UK.
In August 2006, he also took on the responsibility of taking the
Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations through the
UK Parliament and has continued to lead the WEEE policy and enforcement team
since then.
Steve represents the UK Government in
Brussels
on the European Commission’s Technical Adaptation Committee for the RoHS
and WEEE Directives and on the Consultation Forum for discussion of the
proposals that are being made under the EuP framework.
Steve has undertaken speaking engagements at
conferences on all these issues in
Japan,
China
, Taiwan
, Hong Kong
, South Korea
and across Western Europe and the
US
.
