Jack Lavin, Director, Illinois Department of

discusses the state Homeland Security Market
Urbana, IL: On October 13, 2005, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s
(DCEO) Homeland Security Market Development Bureau
(HSMD), AeA and the Information Trust Institute (ITI) welcomed nearly 200 high-tech executives & faculty for an in-depth overview of the market for homeland security in the information technology industry. Developing Technologies for the Homeland Security Market, the second in a series of free forums hosted by the state to help businesses throughout Illinois identify homeland security market opportunities, was held at one of the world’s leading centers of engineering and electronics R&D at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
The conference offered government, industry and academic leaders the latest information on the forces shaping the market for homeland security information technology. Featured panelists described their leading firms’ experiences in the homeland security/information technology industry and shared their expertise on topics such as cyber security, interoperable communications, intelligence analysis software and tools.
Guest speakers, including many prominent authorities on national security, discussed defining the standards of need for information technology related to domestic security. Jack Lavin, director of DCEO, also highlighted the states efforts and achievements to attract and grow the homeland security industry in Illinois as part of
Governor Blagojevich’s commitment to create jobs and economic growth by making Illinois a center for innovation and product development in the $45 billion homeland security industry.
