First AeA/Stanford Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement presented to
Varian CEO
Each
year, the Institute will recognize a graduate of the AeA/Stanford Executive
Institute who has made significant contributions to the high-tech industry
and his/her community. At the 2002 Institute, AeA awarded Dick Levy,
president and CEO of Varian Medical Systems, with the first annual
AeA/Stanford Executive Institute Award for Outstanding Achievement by an
alumnus.
Levy
graduated from the AeA/Stanford Executive Institute in 1982, while he was
working as assistant general manager of Varian’s radiation division. Levy
joined Varian’s corporate management team in 1989 and became CEO of Varian
Medical Systems in 1999. In 1998, he was elected to the AeA board of
directors.
“Dick’s
passion for knowledge has propelled him throughout his career and is a
driving force for Varian Medical Systems,” said William T. Archey, AeA
president and CEO. “I had the pleasure of seeing Dick’s extraordinary
intelligence and problem solving ability while serving under him as AeA
Board Chairman.”

they would possibly attend a one-day program while 54% would attend a
two-day event

Graduate
School of Business
AeA is excited to announce the addition of Stanford's Graduate
School of Business as a strategic partner in its educational offerings.

AeA
Celebrates 60 Years of Advancing the Business of Technology
In the year 2003, AeA, formerly the American Electronics
Association, will be celebrating its 60th anniversary since its founding by
David Packard in 1943. Rather than just a celebration of AeA’s 60th year,
AeA wants this to be a celebration of the high-tech industry itself. The
thrust of AeA’s 60th anniversary will be to celebrate the growth of the
high-tech industry by:
-
Examining the industry’s
remarkable growth since 1943, reviewing the significant milestones in the
development of technology that affects every aspect of our lives
-
Recognizing contributions
from government officials, educators and financiers who supported the
development of the industry
-
Reviewing AeA's pivotal
role in helping the high-tech industry become a critical element of the
world economy by influencing government legislation, improving access to
new markets and providing services to improve the high-tech companies’
bottom lines.
To celebrate, AeA will produce a special-edition publication
chronicling six decades of the high-tech industry and its role in "advancing
the business of technology" since the beginning. AeA member companies can
take advantage of sponsorship packages and print advertising, including editorial submissions. For
