  Highlights of What's Inside...
  • U.S. high-tech employment totaled 5.9 million in 2007, up by 91,400, or by 1.6 percent.
  • This is down from the 139,000 jobs added in 2006 and the 87,400 jobs added in 2005.
  • Unemployment rates are below two percent across many high-tech occupations in 2007.
  • The software services industry added 82,600 jobs in 2007.
  • The engineering and tech services industry added 45,800 jobs in 2007.
  • The high-tech manufacturing industry shed 29,800 jobs in 2007.
  • The communications services industry shed 7,200 jobs in 2007.
  • U.S. high-tech venture capital totaled $16.9 billion in 2007, up by six percent.
