The
AeA Washington
Council has maintained a very
pro-active state legislative agenda for
more than two decades. Our goal is to
create a healthy business environment for
the high-tech industry and we are currently
preparing for the 2009 legislative session.
The Washington
State Senate Leadership under, the
direction of Majority Leader Sen. Lisa
Brown (D - Spokane), began meeting with
AeA
members in August to discuss the high-tech
industry's long term competitiveness. The
Senators were interested in what actions
they could take to help support the
industry's growth.
The main topics of discussion have been:
- Taxes, particularly the R&D Tax Credit,
- Energy,
- Education, and
- Transportation.
Two follow up
meetings were held in October, one dealt
specifically with high-tech manufacturing
and the other with education and workforce
development. In addition to our
meetings with the Senate, Rep. Jeff Morris,
Speaker Pro Tem of the House, briefed the
Washington Council Executive Committee on
regional energy issues.
Over the next
few months we will be meeting with various
legislators and agencies including the
Department of Revenue to discuss tax and
audit issues. If you have suggestions
for other issues you would like addressed
