A graduate of Brown University, Mr. Gottlieb began Learn
Television, Inc. in 1989 to create educational films with Hollywood production
values. This culminated in The Mind’s Treasure Chest, a feature-length
educational comedy about libraries and learning that was distributed in five
countries and won dozens of awards, including the highest award for grades 7 -
12 at the National Educational Film & Video Festival. Mr. Gottlieb then turned
Learn Television, Inc. into a multimedia company in 1993 (renamed Jellyvision in
1995), specifically focusing on the problem of how to make interactive
communication more engaging. This lead to the development and release of You
Don’t Know Jack in 1995, which Mr. Gottlieb designed, directed and hosted.
Jack is now one of the most successful interactive franchises of all
time.
Mr. Gottlieb also designed and directed the CD-ROM Who
Wants to be a Millionaire for Disney Interactive. Mr. Gottlieb managed
completion of the project in two months (typical development time for such a
project is 9-12 months), in time for holiday sales and the peak of the
Millionaire craze. That product continues to be the fastest selling CD-ROM
of all time.
On December 3, 2001, Jellyvision’s latest game show
invention, SMUSH, debuted on the USA Network as a half hour television show. USA
placed a significant upfront order of 65 episodes based on a pilot that was
conceived and completed by Gottlieb in fewer than 30 days, for less than
$30,000, and was filmed in Gottlieb’s apartment. SMUSH is written and
co-produced by Jellyvision. Gottlieb is Executive Producer.
Now Mr. Gottlieb is focusing his energies on The Jellyvision
Lab and evangelizing the Interactive Conversation Interface (iCi), a
vision for a more effective and engaging interface between a human and a
machine. He continues to design and direct new projects, provides leadership for
Jellyvision’s overall creative direction, and systematically murders his plants.
