Federal Government
Providing lobbyists and government policy analysts in 12 state capitals, Washington, DC, Beijing, and Brussels, AeA is successful at influencing issues affecting the bottom lines of our members by leveraging the strength, input, and diversity of small, medium, and large company membership on legislative and regulatory issues directly involving high-tech.

AeA Federal Policy Committees play a critical role in influencing the high tech policy agenda. AeA:

  • Works to educate legislators, regulators, and high-tech executives on the implications of government action on high-tech competitiveness.
     
  • Connects high-tech company executives and rank and file employees with key government executives enabling our members to have a first-hand impact on the outcome of key policy, regulatory, or legislative actions.
     
  • Publishes the most definitive annual study of high-tech employment and other trends on a state-by-state basis (Cyberstates)
     
  • Establishes and leads coalitions when needed to help achieve high-tech industry legislative and regulatory objectives.
     
  • Provides use of AeA’s Conference Center, located on Pennsylvania Avenue near Capitol Hill, to host company seminars or training sessions, product demonstrations or launches, or meets with representatives of federal agencies.

State Government
AeA member companies are faced with a patchwork of conflicting legislation proliferating at the state level on critical issues.  AeA realizes that the ability to project force and influence policy at the state legislative and regulatory level is more important than ever to the high-tech industry if it is to thrive and survive. AeA is the only high-tech trade association with the ability to protect your interests comprehensively at the state level. 

AeA's State Government Affairs Programs is member-driven; our policy committees actively monitor and impact legislation in a number of critical issue areas important to the IT community. AeA's

  • Help member companies monitor what is happening in the states across the country by offering a state legislative monitoring service; regular policy updates and legislative alerts; lobbying staff in key states, and coordination with AeA’s federal lobbying activities.  
     
  • Provide high-tech companies with the best positioning to tackle state legislation that impacts our industry and our bottom line through a national network of AeA member company events, AeA State Policy Action Network (AeA/SPAN)

International Government
AeA’s international offices provide up-to-date information and insights into regulatory, legislative, policy and industry development in their respective markets, which are then integrated into the policy work conducted by the International Division in Washington, D.C.

AeA's International Policy Committees work on critical issues that have a profound effect on member companies ability to do business. These committees:

  • Monitor export control regulations, customs classification, valuation and foreign customs practices;
     
  • Influence negotiation of international trade agreements and regulatory developments in China and the EU by meeting with appropriate officials and sharing our member companies position; and
     
  • Advise foreign officials about high-tech industry considerations regarding international environmental regulations.

The goal of the Government & Commercial Marketing Group (GCMG) is to become the principal liaison between government and the IT industry in technology acquisition, trends, policies and best practices. AeA's team of professionals work closely with Federal agencies, key Administration officials, Congressional leaders, state CIOs, and industry leaders to connect member company executives to government and commercial organizations purchasing technology. AeA offers:
