Josh James is the Director of Research and Industry Analysis at AeA
(formerly the American Electronics Association) the nation’s largest
trade association representing all segments of the high-technology
industry. Based in AeA’s Washington, DC global headquarters, Josh
co-authors the organization’s annual flagship publications,
Cyberstates, Cybercities, and Trade in the Cyberstates,
comprehensive analyses of the status of the U.S. high-tech industry.
In his nearly four years at AeA, Josh has immersed himself in the issue
of U.S. competitiveness. He co-authored AeA’s groundbreaking
report, Losing the Competitive Advantage?, which was “the
catalyst that woke up those of us in the public policy sphere to the
competitiveness challenges facing America,” according to one Member of
Congress.
This report led to AeA's ongoing Competitiveness Series that
analyzes important tech issues, using rigorous data collection with
narrative analysis to make these issues understandable to policymakers,
business leaders, and the media. In this series Josh has tackled
such issues as RFID, high-skilled visa reform, high-tech trade patterns,
network neutrality, the rise of China, eHealth, and telework. Josh
tracks the pulse of the tech industry, regularly talking with AeA
members, policymakers, researchers, and the press.

AeA, Josh worked on a variety of research projects in both the public
