High-tech Legislators Hall of Fame
AeA to
confer Hall of Fame Honor to Houghton (R-NY) May 21 in Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- March 27, 2002 AeA, the nations
largest high-tech trade association, announced today that it will induct Representative
Amo Houghton (R-NY) into its "High-tech Legislators Hall of Fame" May 21 in
Washington, DC. The award is in recognition of Rep. Houghtons continued support of
high-tech business initiatives at the federal level.
Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO) and Representative Norman Dicks (D-WA) will also be presented with
awards. The legislators will be formally honored with a dinner at the Loews LEnfant
Plaza in Washington, DC.
Recipients of the awards are selected using the following criteria:
sponsorship of significant legislation affecting the high-tech industry; support of major
legislative issues affecting the high-tech industry; and continual efforts to educate
public policy officials about the issues affecting the high-tech industry.
"Houghton has shown ongoing support for the high-tech community of
New York through work on the Ways and Means Committee as Chairman of the Oversight
sub-committee," said William T. Archey, AeA president and CEO. "Houghtons
sponsorship of HR 2695 to preserve stock option incentives for high-tech workers is
especially appreciated by the high-tech industry."
New York is home to nearly 340,000 high-tech employees, ranking 3rd
in the nation for technology employment, according to Cyberstates 2001, a study by
AeA and The Nasdaq Stock Market.
Past AeA Hall of Fame inductees have included: Senators Trent Lott, Joseph
Lieberman, Pete Dominici, Christopher Dodd, Robert Bennett, Ron Wyden and Max Baucus;
