AeA Applauds House of Representatives for
Passage of Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement
Implementation Act
Agreement will
provide boost to high-tech industry
Washington, D.C.
– AeA, the nation’s largest high-tech trade association, today applauded the
United States House of Representatives for passing the Dominican
Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act (CAFTA).
The bill approves the trade agreement entered into with the Governments of Costa
Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
“This agreement will greatly benefit the high-tech
industry,” said William T. Archey, President and CEO of AeA, “as it features
important tariff reductions to make U.S. technology exports more competitive in
these countries. The high-tech industry will also benefit from the opening of
key information technology services, including telecommunications, the promotion
of strong e-commerce regulations, and the protection of intellectual property
rights. We are pleased that both the Senate and House have now passed the
implementing legislation."
“International trade is
vitally important to the high-tech industry – on average, more than 60 percent
of U.S. technology industry revenues are derived from outside the U.S. This
trade agreement will open new opportunities and expand markets for a wide array
of high-tech products which is essential to the continued growth and
competitiveness of the Unites States’ high-tech industry.”
