Chinese Government Delegation Coming to US to Explain New Environmental Regulations Impacting the High-Tech Industry; Largest US High Tech Association to Organize and Host

Washington, DC (October 11, 2006) - A delegation of eleven high-ranking Chinese government officials from the Ministry of Information Industries (MII) will be visiting the US for the first time later this month to meet with US high tech companies in Silicon Valley and Texas to discuss new environmental regulations that will affect the design and production of certain electronic products. These new Chinese regulations, which will be implemented March 1, 2007, place restrictions on the use of several hazardous substances (Restrictions on Hazardous Substances, or RoHS) in the production of certain electronic products. The Chinese delegation includes those officials who are directly responsible for the interpretation, implementation, and promulgation of the rules and standards related to the new China RoHS requirements. AeA, the nation’s largest technology trade association with 2,500 member companies representing all segments of the high-tech industry, will organize and host the trip in its entirety.

“While we have met with these officials several times in Beijing, this will be the first time they have come to the US to discuss directly with our member company representatives the details of the China RoHS regulations,” said AeA CEO and President William T. Archey. “This will be an extremely valuable opportunity to get first-hand answers from the officials directly responsible for the regulations. At the same time, companies will be able to engage the delegation on several concerns that we hope can be addressed.”

Along with meeting certain AeA member companies in Texas and Silicon Valley, AeA has organized meetings for the MII representatives in Washington, DC, with US government officials. The trip follows two years of exchanges between the AeA Steering Committee and MII on the implications of the China RoHS regulations for US high-tech companies.

Additionally, AeA will be hosting a public seminar on the new regulations on October 26 from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm in its Santa Clara, CA office. This will be the only public event for the Chinese officials during their tour of the US and will be held at the AeA office in the Techmart Building, 5201 Great America Parkway #400, Santa Clara, CA 95054.

Additional information on the program and registration is available on the AeA events website: www.aeanet.org/RoHSChina.
