Washington, DC
(July 20, 2006) - AeA, the nation’s largest trade association with 2,500
member companies representing all segments of the high-tech industry, today
applauded the United States House of Representatives for passing legislation
implementing the United States – Oman Free Trade Agreement.
“This agreement eliminates duties on all industrial and consumer products, opens
the Oman telecommunications market, improves intellectual property protection,
streamlines customs procedures, and precludes customs duties on digital products
delivered electronically,” said Rob Mulligan, Senior Vice President
International, AeA. “All of these measures will benefit the high-tech industry.
We are pleased that both the Senate and the House have now passed the
implementing legislation.”
International trade is vitally important to the high-tech industry – on average,
more than 60 percent of U.S. technology industry revenues are derived from
outside the U.S. This trade agreement will open new opportunities and expand
markets for high-tech products, and is essential to the continued growth and
competitiveness of the United States’ high-tech industry.
