Newport Beach, CA (March 21,
2007) — AeA, the largest technology trade association in the United States,
today announced that Ed Coleman, the chief executive officer of Gateway Inc.,
will deliver the keynote address at the 14th Annual High-Tech Innovation Awards.
“AeA’s annual High-Tech Innovation Awards celebrate pioneering Orange County
companies and leaders while underscoring the importance of protecting America’s
competitiveness in science and technology,” said Tim Jemal, AeA executive
director for Orange County and the Inland Empire. “That’s why we selected ‘The
Race to Innovate’ as our theme and welcome Ed as our keynote speaker. Ed’s
proven leadership at some of the world's most successful technology companies
speaks to his ability to overcome the pressure of global competition that faces
American business today.”
A 30-year veteran of the computer industry, Coleman heads Irvine, Calif.-based
Gateway, the third-largest PC company in the United States and among the top 10
worldwide. Leading retailers worldwide sell the company’s value-based eMachines
brand exclusively, while the premium Gateway line is available at major
retailers, over the Web, by phone, and through its direct and indirect sales
force. Previously, Coleman held senior leadership roles at Arrow Electronics
Inc., CompuCom Systems Inc., Computer Sciences Corp., IBM and MTS. In 2003, CRN
named Coleman as one of its "Top 25 Executives," and he earned the VARBusiness
500 "Lifetime Achievement Award” In 2004.

The awards will be presented at the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach on May 10,
2007. The event also will recognize local companies, individuals and products in
the technology field that drive innovation in Orange County and the Inland
Empire.
Nominations for the 2007 High-Tech Innovation Awards were accepted in the
following categories: Outstanding Private Company CEO, Outstanding Woman in
Technology, Outstanding Company, Outstanding Medical Device Company, Outstanding
Public Company CEO, High Impact Person of the Year, Community Service and
Innovative Products. Finalists will be announced in early April while winners
will be announced at the May 10 event.
In addition, there are four special categories to honor innovative educators and
students in Orange County. AeA is collaborating with the nonprofit Project
Tomorrow to recognize educators who are inspiring students to embrace science
and math education as well as K–12 students who excel in these important
disciplines.
