Washington, DC and Arlington, VA –
TechAmerica today praised Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet
Napolitano for appointing Phil Reitinger as deputy undersecretary of the
National Protections Program Directorate (NPPD). In that position, Reitinger
will be responsible for protecting federal networks from cyberattack, an issue
of great importance to TechAmerica members.
“Phil Reitinger is a recognized expert on computer
security and understands the importance of working with the private sector,”
said TechAmerica President Phil Bond. “We applaud Secretary Napolitano for her
choice of such a highly qualified individual with significant government and
private sector experience, and we look forward to working with her, Mr.
Reitinger and the Department on cybersecurity issues.”
Cybersecurity is critical for the protection of the
government’s information and systems and is critical to the growth of America’s
information infrastructure, a key component of our national and economic
security. TechAmerica is a recognized leader on cybersecurity issues and
continues to advocate for ensuring senior White House leadership on cyber
security, enhancing the public-private partnership, increasing international
coordination and collaboration, and supporting legislation that promotes
prevention and protection efforts.
Prior to joining DHS, Reitinger served as chief
trustworthy infrastructure strategist at Microsoft. Previously, he served as the
executive director of the Cyber Crime Center at the Department of Defense and as
deputy chief of the Department of Justice’s Computer Crime and Intellectual
Property division.
