Woodland Hills, CA (February 25, 2008) – The
Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Council of AeA today announced it will be
launching a series of events designed to inform, educate and engage high-tech
companies on the existing and emerging issues in corporate social responsibility
and corporate philanthropy. The series will kick off with an event “How Going
Green Affects the Bottom Line”, on March 20 in Los Angeles. Hosted by UCLA, the
event will feature a panel of distinguished speakers and opportunities for
attendees to network and share success stories about Corporate Social
Responsibility and environmental stewardship.
“Our goal is to shine a spotlight on the pioneers who are benefiting both their
stakeholders as well as their communities with innovative green initiatives,”
said JoElla Lapiana, Executive Director of AeA’s Los Angeles and Santa Barbara
Council.
The event, which runs from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, is hosted by the UCLA Sustainable
Resource Center and Nurit Katz, its founder. The format is designed to educate
and engage high-tech companies on the existing and emerging issues in Corporate
Social Responsibility. The program is open to AeA members as well as
non-members.
With Diane Wittenberg, Executive Director of the California Climate Registry as
the moderator, attendees will hear industry recognized panelists discuss how
companies can embrace a commitment to the environment, while also ensuring that
this commitment has a favorable impact on profitability.
The panel will highlight success stories of companies that have made their green
initiatives translate into the concept of the triple bottom line - profits,
planet and people. Topics include green technology initiatives, reduction of
emissions, environmental stewardship, E-waste and green IT, water and energy
usage, encouraging employees to support sustainable practices, governmental
incentives for embracing green initiatives, and cautionary tales about “greenwashing.”
High-tech companies are also encouraged to prepare nominations for upcoming AeA
awards that will recognize Southern California companies in the high-tech
industry that demonstrate corporate citizenship and fresh approaches to being
green.
