Fall election comes into focus
Oregon voters face a spirited governor’s race and 10 ballot measures in
the fall general election in November. Democratic Gov. Ted Kulongoski will
face off against Republican challenger Ron Saxton for the state’s top job.
Ballot measures include proposals to limit state spending, cut income
taxes, set term limits on the Legislature, impose campaign finance limits,
and require parental notice before older teenagers can obtain an abortion.
Federal elections will be rather quiet, with neither U.S. Senator up for
election this year and all five members of the House expected to retain
their seats..
Visit the AeA webpage for an overview of the fall election.
Party in the Pinot another big
hit
More than 400 industry executives and their guest gathered
July 29 at the Oswego Hills Winery for the annual AeA-sponsored Party in
the Pinot. This was the fourth annual AeA summer gala and the third at the
West Linn winery.
Attendees enjoyed fine food and drink under the big tent, the jazz music
of Portland saxophonist Patrick Lamb, and post-dinner desserts under the
stars. The summer gala has become the “go-to” gathering of the Oregon tech
community.
Oregon Council chair Bob DeKoning of Routeware was the master of
ceremonies. Guest also heard from Governor Ted Kulongoski and AeA chief
operating officer Tim Bennett from Washington, D.C. Attending were
Portland Congressman Earl Blumenauer, West Linn Congresswoman Darlene
Hooley, and Oregon House Majority Leader Rep. Wayne Scott.
Thanks again to presenting sponsors Intel and ESI, dinner sponsor
Tektronix, creative services sponsor PopArt, welcome reception sponsors
CRESA Partners and On Site Financial, Scotch and cigar bar sponsors Fortix
and Ater Wynne, and dessert sponsors First Tech Credit Union, Travelers,
and Mercer Health and Benefits.

Tech tour showcases local
companies
Ten public companies from the AeA Oregon Council
participated in this year’s Oregon Technology Tour August 7-10 to showcase
their companies to national investors. Now in its fourth year, the Tech
Tour allows investors to tour company sites, meet the management teams,
and view product demonstrations.
The tour gives companies a chance to spend more time with investors than
at the standard investment conference, where companies and investors
typically meet in hotel conference rooms. It also allows members of the
financial community to get a broad overview of the Oregon technology
industry.
Participating this year were: ESI, Tut Systems, Lattice Semiconductor,
RadiSys, FEI, Cascade Microtech, InFocus, Pixelworks, Planar, and
Tektronix. Investors and companies came together on August 9 for a dinner
at the Bridgeport Brewery in Portland’s Pearl District.

Small business feedback sought
The Governor’s Small Business Council needs feedback from small business
leaders throughout Oregon. Results will be used to craft a small-business
agenda for the State Legislature and to guide the Council’s work in coming
months and years.
Current chair of the Council is Christine Chin Ryan, president of Synergy
Consulting, a member of the AeA Oregon Council.
