National Group to Recognize Orange County’s Most Innovative Educators and Students:
Awards process showcases innovative approaches to preparing students for 21st century global marketplace

Irvine, CA, February 11, 2008Project Tomorrow, the nation’s leading nonprofit group focused on science, math and technology education, in partnership with AeA Orange County Council is calling for nominations from the Orange County community to recognize outstanding education leaders and students for their innovative uses of science, math and technology. The 3rd annual Innovation in Education Awards process is open to all public and private schools in Orange County and nomination forms are available on Project Tomorrow’s website, http://www.tomorrow.org/community/innovationawards.html. The 2008 Innovation in Education Awards are sponsored by Emulex and the award recipients will be announced at the 15th Annual AeA High Tech Innovation Awards dinner on Tuesday, April 29th at the Hyatt Irvine.

Project Tomorrow is seeking nominations in three categories this year:

  • Innovative School Program in Science, Math, & Technology – honoring the strong leadership of a school principal in driving innovation in education

  • High Impact Teacher in Science, Math & Technology – acknowledging the influence of a great teacher in preparing his/her students to compete and thrive in the 21st century

  • Emerging Student Innovator – recognizing students who are creatively using science, math and technology resources to solve a school or community problem

“With all of the national discussion on global competitiveness and improving education, this awards process provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and showcase the principals, teachers and students in Orange County that are not just talking about innovation in the classroom, but actually doing it everyday,” said Julie Evans, Project Tomorrow’s CEO.

Nominations for the 2008 Project Tomorrow Innovation in Education awards may be self-submitted or submitted by a district and/or school staff person. Organizations such as a PTA unit, parent advisory committee, or any youth based organization(s) are also eligible to nominate. An independent review panel of national and local education and business leaders will select this year’s award recipients.

Applications are due by the end of the business day, Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 5p.m. All nominations must be submitted via e-mail to innovation@tomorrow.org or by fax (949-609-4665). Finalists will be notified by March 24, 2008. Award recipients will be announced on April 29, 2008.
