After
decades of uncontested global dominance, the United States is now at risk of
falling behind emerging powerhouse nations such as China and India. If we
don't move fast to improve our education system, boost research funding and
fix overly restrictive immigration laws, the U.S. will soon lose its place
as the world's biggest and most inventive economy. Join us as we gather
with high-tech executives, politicians, and education representatives
to stimulate a call to action by the US Congress...More

News From Our Policy Department
AeA Releases New Competitiveness Series on the R&D Tax Credit
AeA released its 10th edition of its ongoing Competitiveness Series
entitled Strengthen the R&D Tax Credit and Make It Permanent. The
report analyzes why the currently-expired U.S. R&D Tax Credit is so critical
to American innovation and competitiveness. It also highlights how critical
R&D has been to the United States, particularly industry funded R&D.
AeA Releases New Competitiveness Series on the Need to Preserve Network
Neutrality
AeA released the 11th edition of its ongoing Competitiveness Series
entitled The Case for Preserving Network Neutrality, the report makes
the case for promoting innovation and competition by upholding the
principles of network neutrality that have governed the Internet since its
inception. The paper confronts the misperception that content providers do
not pay for access to the Internet. A conservative estimate shows that the
7.3 million business Internet subscribers, which include content providers
of all sizes, pay at least $13.1 billion a year to make their content
available on the Internet.
These reports, as well as all installments of the AeA Competitiveness
Series, can be downloaded for free at:

III. New AeA
Programs Available
AeA Announces Endorsement of
New National Healthcare Insurance Provider
Effective September 19, 2006, AeA will endorse UnitedHealthcare as its
preferred national health care insurer offering to underwrite benefits
coverage for participating AeA member companies. Our recommendation of
UnitedHealthcare is based on a number of important considerations.
Specifically, UnitedHealthcare provides:
-
Substantially greater geographic coverage around the United
States;
-
Competitive price and plan design options;
-
Excellent physician and hospital networks;
-
Global health care solutions available for international
employees;
-
Creative wellness programs - normally available only to the
largest companies - designed to proactively help you control health care
costs; and
-
“Best in class” technology solutions integrated throughout
all levels of UnitedHeatlhcare’s operations. These solutions make it easier
for your employees to access top quality care and include on-line self
service tools to make enrollment, plan changes, and filing claims fast and
easy.
In fact, UnitedHealthcare is
ranked 1st in Fortune Magazine’s 2006 list of the nation’s best performing
health care companies.
For member companies already
enrolled in the Aetna program, this decision should not impact their current
Aetna policy. However, in the future, we urge them to consider what
UnitedHealthcare can offer in terms of plan and network offerings, price
competitiveness, nationwide distribution, and international capabilities.
AeA encourages you or your
broker to ask for details about the new program with UnitedHealthcare, which
will be available starting September 19.
You may call either
Eric Meyer, AeA Senior Vice
President for Insurance Services at 202.682.4430, or contact the Dedicated
UnitedHealthcare AeA Sales Team at 1.800.809.9581 (8:30 pm to 5:00 pm
Mon-Fri).
