Capitalizing on RenewableEnergy in the Rockies:The NREL Perspective
The evolution of
renewable energy promises to build upon and influence the Rocky Mountain

for lunch. Dr. Dan Arvizu heads the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
in Golden, Colorado. The Director will offer NREL's perspective on the
developments of renewable energy and how the Mountain States High-Tech
Industry can capitalize.

are thrilled to serve AeA Mountain States members as they are already
in the midst of collaborating with AeA Mountain States Council members to
build a vibrant legislative program, enhance AeA’s reputation as a
high-tech thought leader in the Rocky Mountain Region and position members
as vital and sustainable resources to the legislature and the
administration.
Aponte Hogan & Busam is a public affairs consulting firm providing
high quality public affairs services to a variety of clients in the health
care, education, non-profit and business arenas. Our overall mission is to
facilitate our clients’ abilities to achieve their individual government
and public affairs agendas. Our proven track record of success for clients
includes legislative victories, relationship building with elected
officials, advocacy training for clients and positive media relations. The
firm is known for developing legislative programs tailored to meet the
specific needs of each client.
Ruth Aponté, who has been lobbying in Colorado for more than a
decade, has also worked as the executive director of a non-profit
organization, organized a campaign to fight a constitutional initiative
and provided government relations services both in-house and on a contract
basis. Aponté brings to the firm extensive experience lobbying the
Colorado General Assembly and regulatory agencies on issues ranging from
utility deregulation to children’s health care. She holds a Masters Degree
in Political Science.
Mary Kay Hogan, an attorney, served as Legal Counsel to the
Colorado General Assembly in the Office of Legislative Legal Services,
legal research associate for the Colorado Municipal League, and in private
practice with a municipal law firm. With this background, Hogan brings to
the firm relationships with local government officials, legislative
drafting skills and the ability to analyze complex statutes. Her areas of
specialization include tax, transportation, and local government. She
holds a law degree from the University of Denver.
Edie Busam comes to the firm with nineteen years experience in
healthcare administration including hospice administration, reimbursement
contracting, and medical device manufacturing. She has significant
political experience working as Legislative Chair for the Colorado
Association of Medical Services, Colorado Managed Care Contractors and the
Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Case Manager Society of America. Ms. Busam
was also successful passing prosthetic parity legislation for the Colorado
Coalition for Working Amputees, the first in the country, Her consulting
practice will specialize in the areas of healthcare, nonprofit
organizations and business entities. She is currently representing issues
for the March of Dimes at the Colorado state capitol.
Amy Redfern comes to the firm with extensive experience in the
technology arena. Ms. Redfern has worked in public affairs for a
multi-billion dollar corporation, developing worldwide public affairs
strategies, helping to address federal, state, and local legislative issues
and processes. She has also worked with government sales teams to identify
procurement opportunities. Ms. Redfern has also managed contributions
through corporate PACs. Ms. Redfern’s expertise lies within the technology
field and she has extensive experience lobbying these issues before
federal, state and local governments.

The elections are fast
approaching, AeA is dedicated to protecting and
promoting the High-Tech industry at the State Capitol and the
regulatory agencies. AeA created the CO-TECH PAC in in 1999 to financially support those legislators
who have been and will be receptive to the technology industry's position on policy issues. Only AeA members may be PAC
investors and contributions may range from $250 to $10,000. For more

Public Policy Retreat
AeA MT States will hold a late summer public policy retreat to
review planned 2007 legislation and set the agenda for AeA MT States’ 2007
Legislative Focus. The meeting will be held from 7:30am until noon at the

Committee Initiatives
AeA MT States Council
Education Committee has created substantial change in the last few months
for the 2006/2007 year. The Committee has established a strong
relationship with numerous organizations and has raised over $3,000 for
the AeA Scholarship Foundation and will donate an AeA scholarship to the
Celebrate Technology Awards 2006 on Friday, October 6, 2006.
AeA MT States Education Committee continues to focus on initiatives that will help
Colorado's high-tech industry from the ground on up. Colorado's high
technology industry depends on a highly educated and technologically
competent current and future workforce trained by a strong public
education system to compete and advance in the global market. Help shape Colorado's future by attending the next Education

Celebrate Technology 2006 was the
second consecutive year in which two scholarships
were awarded to individuals studying at the University of Colorado at
Colorado Springs
College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. This year, the number of
applicants for the
two scholarships doubled - from eight to nineteen. In 2006, the
scholarship fund was
supported by all of the Celebrate Technology event sponsors - Patron level
and higher,
and the AeA Education Foundation, with two major donors - Agilent
Technologies and
TAEUS International Corporation. Celebrate Technology will continue to
grow its scholarship
outreach in order to impact more students who have chosen to study STEM
(science,
technology, engineering and math) and thus pursue a career in technology.
