AeA Arizona Higher Education
  • HB 2403 Technology Transfer; University Research
The Arizona Legislature created the opportunity for Arizona Universities to participate financially with private sector companies that exploit research done at the university level for commercial purposes. The bill was widely viewed as a “win-win” for all involved and was signed by Governor Napolitano in a special signing ceremony at a local AZ company that cooperates with Arizona State University. AeA-Arizona supported this effort.
  • HB 2529 University Research Financing
Viewed as a companion bill to HB 2403 (above), the University Financing bill appropriated over $800 million to the state’s three universities for capital financing for “research infrastructure projects” starting in fiscal 2007-2008 and ending in 2030. This bill was also viewed as a “win-win” but was more controversial than HB 2403 due to the significant appropriation of tax dollars involved. Lawmakers are trying to make a statement on the future of AZ and the value place on higher education and research at Arizona’s Universities. AeA-Arizona supported this effort.
