s Jesse Berst, Managing Director, Global Smart Energy
Jesse Berst is an internationally known technology and business analyst. He has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books on technology topics, written hundreds of articles for leading publications and keynoted dozens of business events in the U.S. and abroad.

Jesse serves on the Advisory Council of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and has also advised the U.S. Department of Energy, the GridWise Alliance, the NETL Grid Modernization program, the Gonzaga University Transmission & Distribution Program, the King County Prosperity Partnership, the Portland Business Alliance, and the Premier’s Technology Council in British Columbia, among others.

s  Marc Cummings, Director of Public Affairs, Battelle

s  William H. Holmes, Partner, Stoel Rives LLP

Bill Holmes concentrates his practice in the area of energy law, with a special emphasis on wind, geothermal, biomass, tidal and ocean power, and other forms of renewable energy. He also has extensive experience with real estate law, water law, and general corporate transactions. Bill has been selected to be included in the 2007 and 2008 editions of The Best Lawyers in America in Energy Law and Environmental Law. Bill is the Energy and Telecommunications (ENTEL) practice group leader at Stoel Rives.

s  Jay Inslee, Washington's 1st Congressional District
Congressman Jay Inslee worked at the federal level – as representative for the 4th Congressional District from 1992-1994 and the 1st Congressional District since 1999 – to protect the environment of Washington state and address the problem of global warming. He is the co-author of Apollo's Fire: Igniting America's Clean Energy Economy.

He fought to restore protections for roadless areas in national forests and led a successful campaign in the House to keep limits on oil-tanker traffic in Puget Sound. Since 2005, Jay has used his seat on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee to promote his vision for a clean energy future, the New Apollo Energy Act, and to advance other legislation that would reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. In March 2007, he was appointed to the 15-member Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming.

Jay holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Washington and earned his law degree from Willamette University. He’s been married to his high-school sweetheart, Trudi, since 1972. The couple has three grown children – Jack, Connor and Joe – who all live in Washington state.

s  Robert G. Pratt, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Mr. Pratt leads PNNL’s GridWise initiative that has spawned a new DOE program and an industry alliance that share a vision of an information-rich future for the power grid. He leads a team with a focus on communications architecture, advanced control technology, and simulation and analysis of the combined engineering and economic aspects of the future grid.

Mr. Pratt also leads a PNNL initiative that recently commissioned the new Electricity Infrastructure Operations Center, a fully-equipped grid control center capable of serving as a back-up center, with live phasor data resources from around the U.S. and state-of-the-art analysis tools. It serves as a unique technology development, valuation, training, and technology transfer platform. The initiative is currently developing advanced grid control and situational awareness technologies and watershed/hydro system management capabilities.
