On January 24, 2007, AeA New England presented
Delivering Difficult Performance Messages, a morning program that
helped attendees learn a practical method that they could take back to
their offices and begin to utilize immediately.
Presenter for the program, Jamie Resker, Principal of
Employee Performance Solutions, a
consulting firm specializing in helping managers address employee
performance issues,
came up with what she calls the Performance Continuum
Feedback Method. After years in HR, Jamie realized that managers
would rather discuss poor performance issues with anyone other than
the employees themselves. Jamie developed this method
which represents a
new direction from established feedback methods since it bypasses the
need to raise negative performance examples, which can come across
feeling like discipline and confrontation and can cause many employees
to feel embarrassed or become defensive. With this method, the
employee is more receptive to the feedback and to working on the area
for development.
The program was extremely interactive among the
attendees. The group worked in teams of two and three, using
examples from their own workplaces, and came up with problem
situations as well as probable solutions.
