REACH
REACH, an EU regulation governing the Registration, Evaluation and
Authorization of Chemicals, puts the onus on industry to analyze the
substance composition of virtually all products manufactured or used,
and to work with chemicals suppliers and regulatory authorities to
make sure that every chemical substance is properly registered and, as
applicable, evaluated, authorized and/or restricted, before any
substances or finished products are put on the market in the EU. This
presentation will focus on REACH obligations that may apply to you if
you produce or import finished goods, components or parts in the EU or
use any substances or preparations (e.g., solvents, fluids, inks) in
the course of your industrial or professional activities
- Felise Cooper, Associate,
U.S. Environmental & Regulatory Law Group, Allen & Overy

Sustainability, Design for Environment and Going Green
Engineering and design have long been about how quickly a product can
be brought to market with as many features as possible. Among
competing global pressures in today’s market, sustainability is
becoming increasingly important to consumers and manufacturers alike.
In environmentally conscious companies, product development is
steering more toward sustainability and “green” engineering. This
presentation will cover how companies can build sustainability into
their everyday business with particular emphasis in product
engineering design. Sustainability concerns include weight, hazardous
material content, use of recycled or sustainable materials, energy
consumption, end-of-life disposal and recyclability, packaging, and
the overall cost/benefits of “going green”. Also provided will be some
“quick start” tips for companies looking to assess their ability to
“go green.”
- Kristine Kalaijian,
Senior Manager of Sustainability, Philips
- Krista Botsford, Founder and
Chief Executive Officer, Botsford EcoTech Partners (formerly
5-Trees)
