Information/Who Should Attend

Learn the latest global developments from AeA, the only association lobbying on IT environment issues at state, federal and international issues.  Hear the latest analysis from the leading legal WEEE/RoHS source, Allen & Overy, LLP and receive European Environment Updates directly from Steve Andrews, UK Department of Trade and Industry (a leading government official).  Additionally, hear from industry peers about how technology companies are complying with these laws, get your questions answered and network with your industry peers.

You will learn:

  • How to comply with global regulations requiring manufacturers to finance the recycling and disposal of electronics waste (WEEE Directive) and restrict use of six Hazardous materials (RoHS Directive).
  • How to ensure your products are not rejected at the border of an important overseas market for your products
  • About state environmental legislation and what this means for the high-tech industry
  • How REACH (an EU regulation governing the Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) may apply to your company
  • How EuP may impact your company
  • How companies are focusing on sustainability, eco-design and energy efficiency
  • Some “quick start” tips for companies looking to assess their ability to “go green.”
  • Best practices from your peers.

This presentation will focus on REACH obligations that may apply to you if you produce or import finished goods, components or parts in the EU or use any substances or preparations (e.g., solvents, fluids, inks) in the course of your industrial or professional activities

2:30 - 3:15 PM Sustainability, Design for Environment and Going Green
Engineering and design have long been about how quickly a product can be brought to market with as many features as possible. Among competing global pressures in today’s market, sustainability is becoming increasingly important to consumers and manufacturers alike. In environmentally conscious companies, product development is steering more toward sustainability and “green” engineering. This presentation will cover how companies can build sustainability into their everyday business with particular emphasis in product engineering design. Sustainability concerns include weight, hazardous material content, use of recycled or sustainable materials, energy consumption, end-of-life disposal and recyclability, packaging, and the overall cost/benefits of “going green”. Also provided will be some “quick start” tips for companies looking to assess their ability to “go green.”
