On September 22, 2005, AeA presented a State Government Procurement Conference
on Selling to Massachusetts and its Municipalities. The event was sponsored by
Donoghue, Barrett &
Singal, P.C. and Viisage
and took place at the Volpe Center in Cambridge, MA.
Craig Burlingame, Chief Information Officer for
the Massachusetts Trial Court, was the keynote presenter and offered
insights on the technology needs and plans for the Trial Court, along with
an overview of trends impacting procurement. He
also offered tips for businesses looking to market products and services to
state and local agencies.
Next on the agenda was a panel on Selling to Massachusetts
State Agencies: What Tech Companies Need to Know moderated by David Lewis, Business & Technology Consultant, Waterville Consulting and former
CIO for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Panelists included: John Fuller,
Chief Information Officer, Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles; Richard Mordaunt, Director of IT & Office Procurement for the State Purchasing Agent, Commonwealth of Massachusetts;
Steven Sebestyen, Deputy Registrar, Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles
and Dennis Treece, Chief Security Officer, Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport).
Each speaker offered insights in how best to approach their agency, outlined
their technology needs and explained how theyassess new products and
solutions.
A second panel focused on Doing Business with Cities and
Towns and featured Patrick McCormick, former CIO of Somerville now working
on select projects in Brookline and Mayor Richard K. Sullivan, Jr.,
Westfield, Massachusetts. The panel discussed two ways localities can
make purchases -- one through the state contracts and another independently
by the city or town.
Lively Q&A interaction was also evidenced at the event,
along with ample time for networking with colleagues and the speakers.
The event was met with enthusiasm and greater appreciation for AeA's role in assisting
technology companies in growing government sales. Special thanks to
event sponsors Donoghue, Barrett & Singal, P.C. and Viisage for
their support of this program.
