Over the last 20 years, U.S. multinationals have built a formidable supply base among Chinese manufacturers, but Chinese companies themselves have had little presence in Western markets. Suddenly, Chinese companies are emerging from the mainland, taking over whole product lines from Western companies, as Konka and TCL have done with Thomson or Lenovo with IBM. In some cases, they are challenging U.S. technology companies on their own territory. And sometimes they have done so through intellectual property infringement.
China no longer wants to be simply a factory to the world: the government is raising national R&D expenditures over 2% of GDP, encouraging its companies to register patents, and trying to use technical standards and other means to tilt the playing field toward the Chinese tech sector. U.S. Customs reports that IPR infringing seizures from China made up 66% of the total seized for FY 2004.
In this interactive seminar, you will learn:
- how YOUR company can take advantage of investment or export opportunities in China
- what resources are available for high-tech members in growing business in China
- how to identify pitfalls and where the real opportunities exist for your product or service
- what factors you should consider in approaching this market
- how companies are handling IP concerns
- about recent Chinese government changes and their implications for your business and the high-tech industry
- what emerging issues is AeA’s China office focusing
- what does this mean for U.S. technology companies?
- In this environment, can U.S. technology suppliers afford to go to China? Or can they afford not to?
