Event Summary
Thank you to our host and speakers. Pictured left to right: Mary Jo Porcello, Viisage; Anne Doherty Johnson, AeA and Lori Dernavich, Step Ahead Consulting.

On April 7, 2005, AeA New England hosted a Breakfast Workshop on the topic of Selecting the Right People: For Teams, Projects and Management hosted by AeA member company Viisage.

Lori Dernavich, President of Step Ahead Consulting, presented the workshop to company executives and HR leaders. According to Jim Collins, author of “Good to Great,” a great company knows how to “get the right people on the bus, get the wrong people off of the bus, and get the right people into the right seats.” Playing off of this quote, Dernavich advised attendees on the important practices companies need to adopt before a job is even advertised.

Lori then walked attendees through a discussion of interviewing techniques that help provide an in-depth understanding of the candidate. The workshop ended with a detailed discussion of DISC and PIAV assessments and how they can be used to screen job candidates, help companies select people for teams and determine the roles best suited to a given employee to maximize their effectiveness.

The event was highly interactive, with attending CEOs, hiring managers and senior HR professionals contributing to a dialog about best practices. Attendees were also provided a special bonus opportunity to receive a DISC/PIAV assessment and personal debriefing so they could review first hand the effectiveness of these tools.

Don't miss our next event -- review our upcoming calendar for more training, networking and professional development opportunities.

And for those interested in training your next set of leaders, consider the AeA Stanford Executive Institute this August in Palo Alto, CA. This 11-day program boasts graduates from all over the globe (including many from New England). Call AeA New England to speak to an alumnus or for more details.
