TechAmerica Orange County recently launched it's premier program within
the Global Connect Series - Focus On The Americas: Navigating The Maze
of Export Resources. It was a great opportunity for small to
medium size companies to receive advice regarding how to expand their
businesses (or their client's businesses) to The Americas, including
Canada, Mexico, Central and South America.
Hosted and sponsored by Crowell & Moring, the program attracted a
full-room of 33 senior level executives from the Southern California
region, representing tech and legal professionals. They learned of
the latest import/export compliances and small business resources
available to aid in global expansion.
Imad Boukai, President of General Procurement, Inc., delivered an
unplugged perspective on the advantages and challenges of expanding his
company’s computer business into several countries in the Americas.
General Procurement, established by
Boukai, was founded in 1994 and incorporated in 1996 as a California
based distributor of computers and computer parts. The company is now well into its expansion into Central and
South America. To market effectively into the regions, the company has
opened branches in Miami and Puerto Rico.
With over 100 employees, 7 branches and representation throughout the
world, General Procurement continues to uphold its reputation as a
distributor of brand names at value pricing while maintaining long term
relationships with major manufacturers and customers alike.
The program featured key speakers from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s
Commercial Service and the Bureau of Industry and Security, and the U.S.
Small Business Administration (with an emphasis on International Trade
Finance Programs).
Attendees learned about the best places to export to in the Americas, the
programs, country-specific research, and support available to companies from the Federal government;
available assistance with expansion plans, and financing
opportunities.
Moderated by Claudia Kihano Parker, Esq., Parker Law Group, the program
was followed by a Q&A, with representatives from the U.S. Commercial
Service, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Bureau of
Industry and Security available on hand
to offer free consultations to those wanting to expand their horizons to
the Americas.
The next program within the Global Connect series, scheduled to take
place April 30, 2009, is
Increasing Sales & Market Share In Europe, Middle East & Africa.
Look forward to seeing you there!
