Dolby CEO Receives 2006 Alumni Award

Bill Jasper, CEO of Dolby Laboratories & 2006 Alumni Award Honoree

Attracted to the prospect of helping shape the future of a young technology company, Bill Jasper joined Dolby Laboratories in 1979 as Vice President, Finance and Administration.

With a BS in industrial engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA in finance from the University of California, Berkeley Bill attended the AeA/Stanford Executive Institute in 1981 as an Executive Vice President. Two years later he became Dolby's President. Over the last 25 years, he has led the company's successful transition from an analog audio pioneer to a digital entertainment company that has made consumers aware of just how good audio can sound.

As a CEO Guest Speaker at the 2005 Institute, Bill shared his experiences leading Dolby through its successful IPO and its transformation from a company with a focus on pure audio to one that is widely recognized for its world-class expertise in both audio and video.

AeA and Stanford University presented Mr. Jasper with the 2006 AeA/Stanford Alumni of the Year Award on August 23rd.

Hinds Joins Institute Faculty

The Institute is happy to introduce Pamela J. Hinds, an Associate Professor with the Center on Work, Technology, & Organization in the Department of Management Science & Engineering at Stanford University as the newest member of the team. Ms. Hinds studies the effect of technology on groups and has conducted extensive research on the dynamics of geographically distributed work teams, particularly those spanning national boundaries. She explores issues of culture, language, shared identity, conflict, and the role of face-to-face meetings in promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration. Pamela also conducts research on professional service robots in the work environment, examining how people make sense of them and how they affect work practices.
Ms. Hinds serves on the editorial board of Organization Science and is co-editor with Sara Kiesler of the book Distributed Work (MIT Press). Her research has appeared in journals such as Organization Science, Research in Organizational Behavior, Human-Computer Interaction, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.

Starting in August 2007, Ms. Hinds will teach the AeA Stanford Executive Institute's organization and development components, which were formerly taught by Jennifer Chatman of University of California at Berkeley.
