E3 promotes high standards for K-12 education and strong community involvement by involving businesses in student and school success.

The Chalkboard Project.  www.chalkboardproject.org
A new initiative by five of Oregon’s largest nonprofit foundations to engage the public in a discussion about K-12 education, advocate for high standards, and explore adequate and stable funding to achieve such goals.

Saturday Academy.  www.saturdayacademy.org
Educational activities for students grade 4-12 in math, science, engineering, technology and health care.  Special summer internship programs and programs for young women interested in science careers.

Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.  www.omsi.edu
OMSI operates a science museum in Portland and a host of outreach programs across the state that reach students, teachers and the public.

FIRST Robotics Competition. www.pnwfirst.org
A program for high school aged kids,
FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs to build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering.

Oregon Lego Robotics.  www.ortop.org
A program for kids ages 9-14 that helps them learn engineering principles using Lego robotic kits.

Business Education Compact.  www.becpdx.org
A program in the Portland area that brokers summer internships for teachers within businesses, helps companies develop internships for students, and coordinates the yearly (February) National Engineers’ Month.

SMART.  www.getsmartoregon.org
Start Making a Reader Today is a program operated by the Oregon Children’s Foundation that links volunteer adult readers with young children to increase literacy statewide.

Oregon Mentors.  www.ormentors.org
A clearinghouse program that links adult mentor with kids in need.

Junior Achievement. www.ja.org/home.asp
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest economic education organization. Junior Achievement uses hands-on experiences to help young people understand the economics of life. In partnership with business and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential.
