1. Message from the Orange County Executive Director

Happy July AeA members and colleagues!

We want to hear from you. As we begin our planning for FY2009, it's you the AeA Members that guide us in delivering the initiatives, resources and programs that benefit you. In our efforts to address U.S. competitiveness at the regional level, we have identified and launched four initiatives:

  • Executive Connect: professional development through peer-to-peer exchange of ideas and best practices
  • Policy Matters: political advocacy on the issues of competitiveness locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally
  • Global Connect: addressing international trade from compliance through building business relationships across cultures, languages, and borders
  • Growth Matters: delivering resources and visibility to the emerging technology business in Orange County and Inland Empire.

We will be distributing a survey soon to learn of your issues and challenges--and what you would like to see from AeA for the next calendar season. Stay tuned for the survey to come.

We have a few exciting events coming up including the Marketing Roundtable next week (member only event), Green To Gold: Monetizing the Clean Tech Phenomena in August, HR Roundtable: Dangerous Documents to be scheduled in September, and Global Connect Conference in October.

In this issue of AeA Orange County - The Buzz Newsletter, we also welcome new AeA Member Wells Fargo, highlight AeA Member Onvia, and how the company's database help businesses take the guessing game out of targeting government contract opportunities, announce details of AeA Member Pipeline Software's support for Impress Software users and teams with New Dimension Solutions to provide disruption-free safe passage solution, and announce details of how SYSPRO ERP delivers huge gains for fiber-optic client.

If you are not an AeA Member, make sure to check out the benefits of active membership below. AeA/OC Membership is but a small investment towards an expansive list of endless growth opportunities.

See below for more AeA member news and upcoming events details. Have a great 4th of July!

2. Executive Connect

Wells Fargo Bank joins AeA!

We're proud to welcome aboard new AeA Member Wells Fargo Bank.

Sales & Marketing Roundtable: What Your Competition Knows and You Don’t About Marketing
Join us for the next Sales & Marketing Roundtable Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Printronix, 14600 Myford Rd, Irvine, CA, 92606-1005, 8a.m. - 10a.m., and tap into a network of peer leaders to learn the secret strategies and techniques other technology companies are using today. RSVP by noon on Monday, July 7 to Alan Wald at Alan_Wald@aeanet.org, (949) 450-1500 x104, or click here to register online today! Space is limited to 20 registrants.

Accelerate the Knowledge Curve: If one word could define marketing at today’s technology companies, accelerate aptly applies. Senior sales and marketing executives are under more pressure than ever before to execute, with higher expectations for returns and fewer resources to swiftly handle it all. It’s no wonder that you question whether your competition knows something you don’t about sales and marketing in this pressure-cooker environment. You’re invited to find out. Join other sales and marketing executives for breakfast on Tuesday, July 8, at the AeA Sales & Marketing Roundtable.

What to Expect:
No sales pitch. No agenda. No talking heads.

Simply fresh knowledge you could apply immediately, shared by senior professionals like you who are working in the trenches.

  • Expect answers, insights and connections
  • You’ll hear straight talk — in an uncensored forum — about the marketing issues, trends and practices shaping technology companies.
  • You’ll get practical answers from leaders just like you who are responsible for introducing products, building sales channels, creating demand and navigating today’s shifting mediasphere.
  • You know it will have real value because you’ll be sharing your true insight with your peers.

This roundtable will be a revealing discussion with the influential senior sales and marketing executives who are leading technology companies in Orange County and the Inland Empire. Together, we will tackle your most vexing issues and share our best-kept secrets for success in a rapid-fire exchange.

Expected topics will cover:

  • Which sales techniques are yielding the highest productivity and profitability
  • Who is advancing from current trends in marketing media
  • How consumer generated media is influencing buying decisions – and why B2B technology companies can’t afford to overlook social media
  • Why PR is more important than ever
  • What you can do to drive outstanding results from your organization
  • Plus your most-important questions and answers

Come prepared to share two of your best marketing ideas and ask one question to challenge your colleagues. We’ll also want to know what program topics and speakers you want AeA to host as part of our commitment to your professional development...Register Today!

HR Roundtable: Dangerous Documents - What you don’t know CAN hurt you!

This program will address how common documents, including, employment-related documents, have the potential to come back to haunt you, and what steps you can take today to avoid tomorrow’s headaches. We will present some key challenges and approaches to this issue and offer tips on how you can avoid simple errors that can lead to costly lawsuits.

Who Should Attend…
This program is designed for senior level managers and HR personnel who need:

  • Effective strategies for identifying and addressing legal risks created by your company’s documentation process.
  • Employee policies to ensure your staff understands corporate email is not entitled to privacy protection.
  • Legal recommendations on how to win litigation if these methods fail.

Topics to be discussed include the following: What dangerous documents exist in your company’s files? Which documents are the most trouble? How can you avoid turning your company’s documents into dangerous documents? What tools can you provide your managers to help them comply with legal do’s and don’ts? How emails have become a company’s nightmare and a lawyer’s dream. What can your company do to minimize legal risks created by emails? With email and other computer-generated records among the most dangerous of company records, we will examine best practices for handling these. While often written hastily as a substitute for a telephone call, recent legal developments have shown that email can be used in litigation in ways and with interpretations never intended by the author.

This event is free to AeA members, courtesy of EADS, and $70 for non-members.  To learn more about EADS, please click here. This September event date is TBD. To pre-register for this event, please contact AeA/OC Program Marketing Manager Yalanda_Oglesby@aeanet.org or call 949-450-1500 x101.
